Technip KTI : contract signed with Nynas AB to build a new Sulphur Recovery Unit for the Nynas Refinery in Nynashamn, Sweden

Maire Tecnimont announces that its operating subsidiary, Technip KTI S.p.a., has signed a contract to realize a new Sulphur Recovery Unit for the Refinery of Nynashamn, Sweden. Nynas AB is a worldwide leading producer of Naphtenic Oils and Bitumen/Asphalts, with production facilities in Europe, North and South America and maintains offices in more than 30 countries. The project, which is executed on a Lump-Sum Turnkey contract basis for approximately €49 million, foresees the provision of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (“EPCC”) services. The completion is scheduled for June 2012.
The project consists of the development of a Sulphur Recovery Unit producing 24 t/d of liquid sulphur, with a Tail Gas Treatment section applying the proprietary RAR (Reduction Absorption Recycle) technology, which was licensed by Technip KTI to Nynas in 2008. The project includes the plant offsite facilities, as well as the expansion of an existing substation and the interconnecting piping with the upstream units.

This contract is concrete evidence of Technip KTI’s consolidated position as an internationally recognized Contractor in the Sulphur Recovery Sector. Furthermore, the project confirms the positive cooperation record of Technip KTI with Nynas, which has been consolidated in the past few years. Technip KTI has already been awarded the Basic Design, FEED and EPCC development of a new 15,000 Nm3/h Hydrogen Production Plant, which is now undergoing Commissioning ; the company was also selected as Process Licensor for the Sulphur Recovery Unit.

Petrobras Awards FMC Technologies $300 Million Subsea Manifold Frame Agreement

FMC Technologies, Inc. announced that it has signed a four-year subsea manifold frame agreement with Petrobras, Brazil’s national oil company. The award is expected to result in approximately $300 million in revenue to FMC Technologies if all of the subsea equipment included in the agreement is ordered. The agreement provides assurance that a minimum of 75 percent of the contracted equipment will be ordered during the contract’s four-year call-off period.
FMC’s scope of supply includes the manufacture of up to eight subsea manifolds with subsea multiplex control systems. All equipment will be engineered and manufactured at FMC’s facility in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2012.

"In February, Petrobras awarded FMC a long-term subsea tree frame agreement," said John Gremp, FMC’s President and Chief Operating Officer. "Today’s four-year manifold agreement further strengthens our ability to support their ongoing and future activities, including deepwater and pre-salt developments."

Apache’s UK North Sea Maule Field Commences Production at 11,750 Bbls/Day

Apache Corporation announced that its Maule Field in the United Kingdom sector of the North Sea has commenced production at approximately 11,750 barrels of oil per day.
The new field was brought on production approximately eight months following the October 2009 discovery. Apache holds a 100-percent interest.
"The Maule discovery, which is an Eocene-age reservoir located above the main Forties Paleocene reservoir, was identified by Apache’s North Sea geoscience team using its extensive experience with seismic interpretation in the area. We were able to develop the field quickly via our existing infrastructure within the Forties Field," said James L. House, region vice-president and managing director of Apache North Sea Ltd. "The viability of the project was enhanced by the UK government’s incentives aimed at encouraging development of smaller fields in the North Sea."
Apache is planning a second well at Maule.
Apache also announced that it will proceed with development of the Bacchus Field, a Jurassic discovery four miles (6.5 km) northeast of the Forties Alpha platform. Apache is planning three horizontal subsea wells tied back to Forties Alpha via a pipeline bundle. Apache owns a 70-percent working interest at Bacchus ; Shell owns 20 percent ; and Endeavour owns the remaining 10 percent. First oil is expected in mid-2011.

1 killed in Texas gas explosion

Several injuries reported after giant fire at pipeline

CLEBURNE, Texas - A large natural gas line in north Texas erupted Monday after utility workers accidentally hit the line, sending a column of fire into the air and leaving one worker dead, officials said.
An emergency management official said a utility worker's body was found several hours after the blast.
Authorities searched for the worker by helicopter Monday afternoon following the massive explosion near Cleburne, about 50 miles southwest of Dallas. They couldn't walk through the entire area until making sure the fire was out and there was no danger.
Hood County Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Fine said the worker's body was found Monday night some distance from the blast site. The man's name was not immediately released.
Thirteen other workers who were also at the site were accounted for, and there were no known fatalities, Johnson County Emergency Coordinator Jack Snow  said.
Laura Harlin, a resident of nearby Granbury, said she heard a "huge rumbling" that initially sounded like thunder and then like a tornado because it lasted so long.
"For about 10 minutes, it was so loud that it was like there was an 18-wheeler rumbling in your driveway," she said.
At least seven of the workers went to the hospital following the explosion. Gary Marks, CEO of Glen Rose Medical Center, said two people were treated and released, and four others were in stable condition. One patient was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Spokeswoman Whitney Jodry did not have person's condition.
The gas line is owned by Houston-based Enterprise Products Partners LP. Spokesman Rick Rainey said Enterprise's control room immediately identified a break in the line. The 36-inch line was equipped with valves that automatically shut down gas to that section of pipe, and the fire was out about two hours after the explosion.
The pipeline helps carry gas from West Texas across the state to utilities, distribution companies and commercial users on the eastern end of the state. Rainey said the company would work with customers to avoid any disruption to their service from the fire.
The injured workers were digging for Waco-based Brazos Electric Cooperative, Snow said. A message seeking comment from that company was not immediately returned.
The Texas natural gas blast followed one in West Virginia earlier Monday. Seven workers were burned when a drilling crew hit a pocket of methane gas, triggering an explosion in a rural area about 55 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.
